AVID Application for 2016-2017 School Year
It’s that time of year again! We are currently taking applications for 6th, 7th and 8th grade AVID for the 2016-2017 School Year. Below is the link to the online application. There are also 3 files that will aid you in completing the application process. ALL applications are to be submitted online no later than Friday, March 4th. You MUST have 2 teacher recommendations. CLICK HERE for the sheet you will need to print out and give two of your current core teachers. If you cannot print them out, see your classroom teacher (5th graders) or your Social Studies teacher (6th and 7th graders) for copies of the teacher recommendation forms. These also have to be submitted online by Friday, March 4th, so be sure to give them to your teachers in plenty of time. If you have any questions about applying for AVID, please contact Ms. Hughes or Mrs. Haydon here at CMA. Current CMA AVID Students do not have to reapply.
The CMA TSA members will be taking their tabs to the State Conference on March 24, 2016 and see how they stack up with the rest of the state chapters.
(Please note: CMA TSA will be taking the tabs by the Wichita RMH, after returning from the State Conference.)
Pop Tab Program FAQs
- Why do you only collect the tabs from cans?
- Although the whole aluminum can is valuable, the tab is much cleaner and easier to collect in large quantities than whole cans. The tab of a standard soda can is made of high quality, high-grade aluminum. By itself, it doesn't mean much, but when you pull together, pop-tabs add up and become a valuable donation to your local Ronald McDonald House.
- Who can participate with the Pop Tab Program?
- Anyone! Because they're common and easy to collect, pop-tabs allow virtually any individual or community organization to participate. Many schools support this project because it provides a terrific opportunity for children to get involved and make a genuine contribution to their community. Other enthusiastic participants include churches, hospitals, grocery stores, rotary clubs and business break rooms.
Just the FactsThe pull tabs do NOT buy time on dialysis machines or buy wheelchairs. We do NOT accept the whole can with the tabs because of space restrictions. We accept only clean recycled materials for the health of our families and children. We receive the going rate for aluminum, which changes as the demand changes - varying from rates of 23 to 52 cents per pound on any given period. We average about 450 pounds every 10 days, or approximately $234. Every penny helps families stay at the House -- $10 pays for one family for one night!
Pop Tab Fun FactsApproximately one million pull tabs = 800 pounds
Approximately 1,430 pull tabs = one pound
Approximately 63,360 pull tabs = 1 mile
This year's Yearbooks is still $22, but it has another 4 pages from last year's book, making it 60 pages of full-colored memories, produced by the 7th & 8th grade Student Technology Leadership class.
You can either order it online at http://www.jostens.com, or send in your payment to the office.
Either way you want to to it today and guarantee that you'll get your yearbook when they arrive in late May, before school's over!
